ASPIRE Students Compete in Opti-MINDS
Date: August 29, 2018
Last weekend, our Year 5 and 6 ASPIRE students competed in the Sunshine Coast Regional Opti-MINDS competition at Caloundra Christian College. Opti-MINDS provides students with an opportunity to work collaboratively in small groups, to generate creative solutions to open- ended, challenges. Throughout this process, students hone their skills in negotiation, time management, conflict resolution, script writing and dramatic presentation. The program rewards sustainable practice and divergent thinking.
Four teams of Year 5 and 6 students competed in the Social Sciences and Language Literature sections of the contest. After preparing for six weeks, students had to present their responses to a long term challenge. Each group was also required to complete a Spontaneous Challenge on the day.
It was a joy to see students working together as a team to develop humourous, well thought out responses. Much fun was had, new friends were made and goals were achieved.
We would particularly like to thank Melinda Bosveld, Tracey Beard and Carly Shaw for assisting our teams to prepare for the tournament.
