Athletics Carnivals Wrap-Up

Archives

Spectacular weather was provided for both our Primary and Secondary Athletics Carnivals last week, bringing with it perfect conditions for new records and lots of personal bests.

Participation levels were once again at an all-time high at the Primary Carnival, with all students having a go at most events. This leads to some very close results with the house points. But in the end, Shadrach came out victorious, narrowly beating Meshach.  In the Secondary Carnival, Abednego ran away with the day with athletes in red everywhere you looked.

There were some awesome individual results with records tumbling early in the Primary Carnival with Abel W, Kael T and Sophie L toppling the existing 800m records and Molly M creating new records in both the 100m and 200m and Sienna B doing the same in the 100m.  Only one field event record tumbled by Ivory G in the discus.  This shows great aspirations for our students’ future in sport.

The Secondary Carnival records were a bit more sporadic but there were some new fast times put down by Kaidin D in the 200m and Lucy J and Benny K in the 400m.  Other records came from Brooke K in the shot put, Connor N in the long jump and Lily V in discus.

Districts this year will look a little different with qualifying standards needing to be met for this 10 – 19yr Invitational Trial Event.  Unfortunately, there are no further pathways after that (eg Regional, State) so this is purely an event for our selected athletes to have another opportunity to compete. We wish all the best to all competitors as they compete in Districts.
