Cyber Safety Week 2018

Date: February 14, 2018

Next week is Cyber Safety Week at Suncoast to educate and raise awareness about a range of technology related issues for our Prep to Year 12 students. There will be assemblies, chapels, workshops and special cyber safety lessons to engage students with a healthy approach to our use of technology. We will also send out daily tips for parents via special eNews editions, so keep an eye on your inbox.

There has been recent media attention to the growing concern about technology addiction in general society, but particularly among children and youth. This is mostly associated with more and more evidence of increasing dependence and excessive use of mobile phones. There are more frequent pleas to restrict access to mobile phones for children and teens because just educating them about the dangers of addiction does not seem to be working. There are many wonderful benefits from the use of technology, but we must not put our heads in the sand about the dangers. They are real and many, and again, we implore parents to be informed, proactive with boundaries and vigorously regulate their children’s use of all technology.
