Arts on Twilight
In consultation with the Parents and Friends Association (P&F), we have made the decision not to run the Suncoast Festival this year, but to hold it every second year with a view to making it more sustainable and special. The next Suncoast Festival will take place in August 2019. In its place this year we will hold a smaller Arts on Twilight event for College families on Tuesday 21 August from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

We are planning a thoroughly enjoyable evening which will raise the profile of the visual arts by featuring the artwork of Primary and Secondary students.  The night will be complemented by a wide range of music performances by our students, including busking. Great food and coffee will be available of course.

College Musical & Onstage
In other significant event news, we have made the decision to run with Onstage again next year, rather than a full-scale musical for secondary students given the substantial workload for all our senior teachers in implementing the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) system in 2019. The new QCE is the most significant change to senior schooling in Queensland in 30 years. The next College Musical will happen in May 2020.

We understand there may be disappointment within the College community with this news that we won’t be holding a musical next year as expected, but there will still be great opportunities to develop and showcase the talents of students at Onstage, the Suncoast Festival, as well as Grandparents Day, Dance Showcase and presentation evenings in 2019.

In summary, from next year we will begin a rotation of our events as follows:
2019              Onstage (May) & Suncoast Festival (August)
2020              College Musical (May) & Arts on Twilight (August)
2021              Onstage (May) & Suncoast Festival (August)
2022              College Musical (May) & Arts on Twilight (August)

Collectively, these decisions have been made in consideration of the workloads borne by the relatively small teams of staff and volunteers who make these events happen, and with the earnest desire to achieve more balance in the academic and extra-curricular life for our students.
