National Science Week

At Suncoast Christian College we are celebrating all things STEM for National Science Week – Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology.

Tuesday – Physics Spectacular

Students from our Secondary Science Club demonstrated a number of experiment and devices – celebrating some spectacular Physics.

Gaussian Cannon

A Guassian Cannon converts magnetic energy into kinetic energy. A steel ball , with low initial velocity impacts a series of magnet chains – followed by subsequent steel balls. The final ball of the chain is ejected at greater velocity.


Wednesday – Guest Lecturer, Dr Libby Swanepoel

Suncoast Christian College students are sampling the science of seaweed as a food source after asking a USC nutrition expert to visit during National Science Week.  USC Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics Dr Libby Swanepoel has been invited directly by a group of  Sunocast Year 12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students at the college, and leapt at the chance to nurture their interest and initiative.

Guests: Due do COVID-19 restrictions, only students and their parents and guardians can attend.
Lunchtime: Students can enjoy blind food taste testing


Thursday – Rocket Science

At lunchtime, Suncoast Secondary are launching rockets, firing air cannons and catapults.
