QLD All Schools Touch Tournament
Date: October 23, 2018
Congratulations to the Touch teams who represented our College last week at the QLD All Schools Touch Tournament in Brisbane.
Queensland All Schools Touch is one of the biggest school sports events in Australia and this year Suncoast entered 3 teams in 3 divisions of the competition.
The Open Boys, Open Girls and U15 Girls all came away with wins in their respective pools. The Open Boys had one of the toughest pools and had 2 wins out of 6 and were coached by former students Timothy Philip and Declan Notely. This team, which was made up of mainly Year 11 Boys, will have another shot next year and hopefully make the final 16 or better.
Our U15 Girls had a great tournament and had 2 wins out of 6 as well. For many girls, it was their first big sports event but with a bright future ahead, they did themselves and the College proud.
Finally, after our Open Girls made the SCISSA Grand final in Term 3, they had a great chance to put themselves in the mix for the top 3 in their pool, but unfortunately they drew a tough team from New Zealand who were playing in the tournament and finished higher on points. The girls had 3 wins in a pool of 6 and played some outstanding Touch Football.
Despite Suncoast teams playing all their pool games, the tournament was abandoned on the Saturday and Sunday due to dangerous conditions which was only the 2nd time in the 36 year history of All Schools competitions.
Congratulations to all players and coaches on what was an exceptional tournament and the behaviour, respect and fair play shown by all 3 teams were exemplary.
If student’s are interested in playing touch 2019, please let the Sports Department or Mr Raddatz know as we will have plenty of opportunities for Touch coaching, refereeing and competitions.
