Suncoast Christian College has a vibrant Rugby Sevens culture with teams competing in inter-school matches throughout the Autumn and Winter months.
Suncoast Christian College Rugby 7’s
Rugby is an inclusive team sport that caters to a vast array of body shapes, sizes and skill levels. Rugby 7’s takes it up a notch with only 7 players from each team on the field which leads to a faster more intense pace.
Games are played weekly during term 2 and students compete against other independent schools from around the Sunshine Coast. The College has a solid reputation, regularly making finals, and we the current Under 17 defending champions.
Suncoast rugby is as strong as ever in 2019 with the largest amount of teams we have had in recent years. This year we have an Under 13, Under 15 and two Under 17’s teams, plus an Under 15 girls team. We are impressed with the overall enthusiasm of the students and readiness to learn such a high paced and thrilling game.
Personal development through rugby
The coaching staff has a strong focus on the personal development of students, which is manifest in the skill development and comradery that rugby provides. Students benefit from the development of character, perseverance, and communication – invaluable life skills which are taught and demonstrated by the coaching staff. It is typical for students to develop their personal confidence, there standing with peers as they discover a sense of pride and honour representing the College.
Suncoast 7s Coaching Staff
The coaching staff has extensive experience in playing rugby at regional and provincial levels in Australia and South Africa. Some coaches are still actively playing in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Competition and are strong representatives in the wider Sunshine Coast Rugby community.
