Welcome Message

Date: January 31, 2018

It was wonderful to welcome all our students back on campus last week after the Christmas holidays and it has been a very positive start to the year. We are delighted that 103 new students have joined the Suncoast family for the first time in 2018 and we extend a very special welcome to those families. It is our sincere prayer that each student will experience firsthand the love of God in this community, reach their potential in character and learning, and find happiness and security here.

College students and staff from Prep to Year 12 came together this morning for our annual Student Dedication Ceremony. The purpose of the event is to dedicate our students to the Lord and seek His blessing on all our endeavours, and to set aside our Year 6, 9 and Senior Leaders for their service to the College community. A favourite part of the ceremony is where our Preps take their place on centre stage to be welcomed and presented with a Jesus Storybook Bible by the Year 12 students. It is a beautiful and touching moment. At the end of the year, the Preps will reciprocate this gesture by presenting the departing Year 12 students with a memento of their schooling at Suncoast. We also were reminded of God’s faithfulness and goodness to the College, as we reflected on the development of the school from its humble beginnings 40 years ago in 1979.

When those original church leaders first chose this land, which was a pineapple farm, they had a vision for a school that would be a special place where students could be educated in an environment, underpinned by Christian values, culture and worldview. It would be a school where young people would flourish in the security of God’s love, find their purpose and direction for life, and become the kind of young people who would make a real difference in their communities and the world beyond school. It was a humble start, but God has richly blessed us with amazing facilities and resources that scarcely could have been imagined back then.
