Going for Gold

Nathaniel Nakalevu, a student at Suncoast, travelled to Fiji last weekend to participate in the Fiji Age Group Nationals swimming competition. Competing in the 11 and 12 combined age group, he won three gold, three silver, and one bronze medal.

While at the event, Nathaniel represented his swimming club. He also has an impressive record at Suncoast, including breaking many records for his age group and representing Suncoast at district and regional swimming meets. His participation in the Fiji nationals allows Nathaniel to represent Fiji at future youth Commonwealth or Pacific Island Games.

After an overnight flight from Brisbane to Suva, Nathaniel wasted no time and immediately jumped into the pool, earning seven medals out of eight events. Of particular note was his 200m freestyle, in which he finished over 9 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Speaking of Nathaniel’s future, his mother, Sarah-Jane, shares, “I’m confident that we will witness more of Nathaniel’s swimming achievements as he continues to chase his dream of making it to the Brisbane Olympics in 2032, representing either Australia or Fiji.”
