Community Garden

Suncoast Community Garden is

The Green Thumb Project

The Green Thumb Project is the innovation of Year 12 student, Ben Waddell, who is assisted by Nathan Austin and overseen by Mr Garth Reid, Director of Student Development. These champions of sustainability are supported by ten other Suncoast students who meet every Tuesday lunchtime in the College Community Garden.

Their brief this term has been to prepare the barren chicken coop to house chickens who will take up residence during Term 2 of this year.  To date, they have spent their lunch hours cleaning, weeding and cutting back vegetation, investigating ways to best provide food and water for the chickens as well as preparing a roster for the ongoing care and maintenance for our new residents.

Watch this space as this innovative project unfolds, which includes introducing our new arrivals, visiting hours and the unveiling of the revamped ‘Chook House’.

Volunteers Needed

If you would like to become involved in our Community Garden in any capacity, we would love to welcome you on board.  Our meetings are held on the first Monday of each month during the school term in the garden undercover area at 3:15 pm. We meet informally to discuss innovative ideas, maintenance issues, and relevant planning.

We appreciate there is a wonderful variety of knowledge and experience within our parent community and our desire is for everyone to feel welcome to join our group.  If you feel you would like to make a contribution no matter how big or small, please contact our College office.
