On the back of recent successes at the Australian Karting Championship, Suncoast Christian College Senior student, Dominic Penman was selected to attend the recent Ferrari Driver Academy Camp in Malaysia.

Dominic was fortunate to be selected as one of 24 high-achieving drivers from the Asia Pacific Region to attend the Ferrari Driver Academy Camp in Sepang. Before heading to Sepang International F1 Circuit, Dominic completed a test in a Formula 4 at Sydney Motorsport Park. While at the Ferrari Academy, Dominic trained and tested in the latest Top Speed prepared Tatuus Formula 4 Generation 2 car and was assessed by Ferrari Driver Academy scouts, competing for a place in the Ferrari Driver Academy Finals in Italy later this year.

The FDA requires the drivers to test in a Formula 4 Tatus race car. The F4 Tatus weighs around 500 kilograms with 200 horsepower and reaches speeds over 220 km per hour.

During the event, Dominic experienced some illness, but that didn’t stop him putting pedal to the metal, as his father David Penman comments: “We are proud of how Dominic conducted himself at the FDA and even when illness struck he was able to jump into the race car and drive fast without complaint.”

The Driver Training focused on driving and included fitness training and testing, media, sponsorship management, data analysis testing and training, nutrition and psychology workshops, and advice and training from professional F4 race engineers.
